Botox injections are considered medical practice in Maryland and must be performed by a licensed physician or an independent practice nurse practitioner (NP) if it falls beyond their area of practice. Under appropriate physician delegation and supervision, the physician may delegate this procedure to a physician assistant, registered nurses (RN), and licensed practical nurses (LPN) if: [1] they have the education, training, and skill to competently and safely perform the procedure, [2] the physician performs the initial assessment, and [3] the physician develops the treatment plan for the patient.
Practice on your own If [1] it falls within the NP's area of practice, [2] it is done in accordance with nursing delegation laws, and [3] the RN and LPN have the education, expertise, and training to do it safely and competently, NPs will be able to delegate this procedure to them.
